To build participant knowledge and skills in dealing with challenging behaviour.

- Understand the Aims, Psychology and Principles
- Introduce Personal Space & Circles of Danger
- Be able to use the Help Script (for service user & colleagues)
- Development of Personal Safety
- Training Safely (Safety Messages)To use the Personal safety techniques, a considered response
- To understand the Framework for Positive Handling Techniques
- To know the Legal and circular guidelines
- Health and Safety Act 1974
- Developing Behaviour As A Language
- Aggression: Roots and Recognition
- Stress and Conflict Spiral & Levels of a Crisis
- De-Escalation techniques
- Support and Interventions (Help or Hinder)
- Policy and Practice
- Recording and Reporting
- Complaint Procedures
- Post Incident Structure
- Repair and reflection
- De-briefing and supporting the child & staff
- Evaluation and certificates
Training Method
Tutor input, Question and answer session, Group work Case Studies, Practice of skills
