Aim:
To build participant knowledge and skills in dealing with challenging behaviour.
Objectives:

  • Understand the Aims, Psychology and Principles
  • Introduce Personal Space & Circles of Danger
  • Be able to use the Help Script (for service user & colleagues)
  • Development of Personal Safety
  • Training Safely (Safety Messages)To use the Personal safety techniques, a considered response
  • To understand the Framework for Positive Handling Techniques
  • To know the Legal and circular guidelines
  • Health and Safety Act 1974
  • Developing Behaviour As A Language
  • Aggression: Roots and Recognition
  • Stress and Conflict Spiral & Levels of a Crisis
  • De-Escalation techniques
  • Support and Interventions (Help or Hinder)
  • Policy and Practice
  • Recording and Reporting
  • Complaint Procedures
  • Post Incident Structure
  • Repair and reflection
  • De-briefing and supporting the child & staff
  • Evaluation and certificates

Training Method
Tutor input, Question and answer session, Group work Case Studies, Practice of skills

This course is suitable for Residential Care Staff, Care Support Staff, Foster Carers, Social Workers, Teachers and Learning Support Assistance.
