Aims
• Foster carers will understand the complex dynamics of identity development and contact between looked after children and significant people in their lives.
• To explore the issues involved in promoting and facilitating contact between fostered children and their birth families, and the impact this can have on foster carers and their families
Learning objectives:
• Be aware of the legislation and standards that relate to contact arrangements for fostered children
• Look at practical ways to promote contact for children and young people in foster carer
• Identity and Origins
• Values and Social Norms
• Understand some of the benefits and disadvantages of contact, taking into account the wishes and needs of the children and young people
• Explore ways of managing contact, and the emotions it may engender in those involved
• Rehabilitation back home
