Basic introduction to working with Learning Disabilities

Aim:
To build participant knowledge and skills with regard to working with children and young people with learning disabilities.
Objectives:

  • To look at the role of foster care and residential childcare work
  • To look at the legislation and guidance involved in working with children and young people with learning disabilities
  • To look at assessing the needs of a children and young people with learning disabilities
  • To identify ways in to work effectively with children and young people with learning disabilities.

Training Method
Tutor input, Question and answer session, Group work Case Studies, Practice of skills
Course Materials
All participants will receive a course booklet containing all the key ideas and support material covered on the course.
Course length

1 Day, 10am - 230pm.

Suitability

This course is suitable for Residential Care Staff, Care Support Staff, Foster Carers, Social Workers, Teachers and Learning Support Assistance.
