Safeguarding Children in Placement

Aim:
To promote understanding of safeguarding issues in relation to children/young people in placement.
Objectives:

  • To familiarise carers with risk assessment approaches to activities, including sports.
  • To achieve comprehensive health and safety awareness in the carers' home, adjusted to the safe caring needs of the individual child.
  • To consider safe journeys, including by car with carers, and to and from school.
  • To increase awareness of safeguarding issues in use of internet/Facebook, and telephones including mobiles.
  • To suggest helpful sources of information on aspects of safeguarding, including the CRB checking of frequent visitors to the carers' home, and overnight stays. .

Outcome:
To equip carers with a fuller understanding of safeguarding issues in practice, during their fostering career.

Training Method
Tutor input, Question and answer session, Group work Case Studies, Practice of skills
Course Materials
All participants will receive a course booklet containing all the key ideas and support material covered on the course.
Course length

1 Day, 10am - 230pm.

Suitability

This course is suitable for Residential Care Staff, Care Support Staff, Foster Carers, Social Workers, Teachers and Learning Support Assistance.
